Working together for Brand Corporate Identity Task 4

Layout Inspiration

Figure 1.1 - Layout Inspiration

Narrowed it down to 3 layout that I think it is most suitable for my brand - Solace Studio :

Format + Grid System

Suggested size for brand guidelines - 1920px x 1080px

Navigation

My first attempt for the navigation was using the full top on the page from edge to edge (figure 1.4 & 1.5), getting feedback from Mr Vinod that the movement will be too big to click on it from this edge to the other. We had 1 hour in class to come up with new navigation layout, and Mr Vinod agreed to go with the hanging light looking cup -

My attempt after trying out the interactive buttons and layout :

Image Photography Source

For my content page for every chapter I uses a brighter tone of image at first, but Mr Vinod says it doesn't really have the consistency to match with my other images, so I tried looking for more sorrow feeling photography on Behance.

These are the few photography I though it would match my design style:

Figure 1.8 - content page (after)

Same to my Brand Story page, the background image does not tells much about my brand, and the feedback given was that I have exceeded the word count in a row, it fills out my whole page with text. My refinement was to keep this page a clean black background, following my grid system all my text will be placed staring from half of the grid :

For some of my pages I was suppose to leave some white background but some of it seems to be a bit too raw and empty, my suggestion was to make some adjustment to some of the page. I did on my Brand Value page, added an image to fill up the empty space:

Navigation Improvement

It was given feedback that I need to indicate which section is it at, to let the readers know when they are looking at my guideline they know exactly which section they're at. To do so, I added a color changer on the navigation vectors, to indicate the sections. For example, on the content section the circle vector will turns green; on the brand section the tears vector will turns green..

Figure 2.5 - navigation (the brand) green tears

Figure 2.6 - navigation (logo system) green tears

My logo improper usage was presented without any interaction, I feel like I could still improve on this part. I tried to make a pop up box to show the description of text:

After feedback from Ms Lilian, she suggest us to add a last page for the brand guideline instead of ending it randomly. So I added a contact page at the end with the brand's contact information.

Also suggested by Mr Vinod to add a rollover to the icon buttons even it doesn't link it to the contact, it is to let readers know that it can be clicked:

FEEDBACK

Week 11
Navigation bar each section is too far away, it is very hard for readers to click from right to the end left. Consider a more creative way. First idea of the navigation looks much better with the hanging cup light looking design. For brand typefaces, best not to include the brand logotype. Vector that I use the circle and the tears not suitable, remove it.

Week 12 Images are fine. Layout looks clean, the pages that uses the small images at the back of the text looks really interesting! Very good sense of design. Start constructing the buttons.

Week 13
Much improvements for this week. The images fits very well to the theme that brings reader into the vibe. The use of playful arrangement is brave but in the same time consistent, like the text placed above of the images. Good layout and consistency. For the brand typeface, consider to let readers understand how the typeface will look like, now it looks a bit confusing with all the different Gill Sans written at the sub heading. For the last page, should add a rollover to the social media icon to let readers know it is clickable.

REFLECTION

Experience
Week 11 I was very lost as I didn't how to start. I looked up for some references, and some tutorials for interactive design to study more before I actually start to construct, focusing just on the layout and navigation first.
Week 12
Learning a new tools - Button and Forms. It was quite confusing for my first time.
Week 13
After manage and understand the function of the buttons, I worked smoothly and added a lot more interactive pages.

Observation
Week 11 Focusing just on the layout, it is quite challenging for me as I always wanted to make a lot of different stuff into my design. Trying out different types of layout, images and vector, but seems like images fit more to my design instead of creating vectors.
Week 12
Adding interaction into layout this week, notice that the tutorials on Youtube was quite limited, but learning the basic for the buttons made me create my own ideas.
Week 13
It really gives the brand guideline a little fun after adding interaction, instead of just plain and bland.

Findings
Week 11 It is quite challenging on the layout design, but it really gives me a lot of motivation to create a good guideline for my future use.
Week 12
I find that the interactive buttons are somehow not working sometimes when I open it in other applications, but it is working find in Indesign preview. I need to keep re working on the buttons to make it work.
Week 13
The interactive brand guideline makes the overall design looks more professional and I find that it is very useful for my future use.
